Location:   Colorado Avenue & Innovation Drive, Boulder, CO

Owner:    University of Colorado Boulder

Architect: Robert   A.M. Stern Architects in association with HDR Architecture, Inc.

The key role of the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building is to serve as a magnet for the university’s biotechnology, biochemistry, and chemical engineering research programs, generating new research funding and attracting top-quality faculty, and drawing the area’s best students in engineering and science. The facility will feature highly efficient and flexible lab design supported by state of   the art technology, built around the concept of interdisciplinary research   and collaboration. Together, these attributes will add to the growing success   that CU-Boulder has seen in grant awards and technology transfer. It will   draw programs together and offer undergraduate students the opportunity to   work side-by-side with internationally recognized faculty and research teams.   The building will also have an educational thrust and includes an auditorium   for large conferences, seminar rooms, classrooms, computer labs, and teaching   labs. Other building amenities such as an open meeting area gallery, café,   and conference rooms organized around an interior “main street”   concept will result in a place where “people will want to linger.”   It will be a crossroads of creativity for students, faculty, and industry.
