Recap: Box City Denver 2019
The Denver Architecture Foundation presented BOX CITY 2019 in partnership with History Colorado Center on Saturday, April 13, 2019. This popular annual event was FUN and family-friendly!
Box City is an event for children—grades K-5—where participants learned about the process of urban development and the principles that make for sound architecture, design and planning. Students started with a Building Permit for their desired building type, made a draft sketch of their building in the Design Studio, stoped at the Hardware Store to get their cardboard and paper supplies, and then headed to the Construction Zone to make their Box City structure. After completing the Building Inspection process, students headed to the Box City street grid where an Urban Planner helps them select an appropriate building site. Finally, the children finished the process by picking up their Certificate of Occupancy that includes a photo of them with their building.
