DOD Archival Tour: Harvey Park Neighborhood/Cliff May Homes

August 30 through October 17, 2021

Doors Open Denver Archival Tour: Harvey Park Neighborhood / Cliff May Homes

Tour guide: Atom Stevens, Neighborhood Historian

About the tour: This virtual walking tour will explore the prefabricated Cliff May Homes in southwest Denver’s Harvey Park neighborhood. We will look at the streetscape of this unique enclave, and take a closer look at a residence both inside and out from an architectural perspective.

About the homes: The Cliff May Homes are a group of 170 mid-century modern ranch style homes built from a patented prefabricated system of tilt-up panels designed by Cliff May and Chris Choate of California. They are among thousands more built in the western United States, and the tract represents the largest collection of these homes outside of California. The homes utilize post-and-beam construction to create an open and flexible modular floor plan that features window walls that connect to private outdoor living spaces.

About the tour guide: Atom Stevens is a 15 year resident of Denver’s Cliff May Homes and was driven by curiosity to learn more about this unique tract of homes 10 years ago. That curiosity has led Stevens to expand his studies to all of the mid-century modern homes and buildings in the Denver area. He recently became a real estate broker specializing in mid-20th century homes. Stevens is also a co-founder of Denver Modernism Week and works as a professional designer, marketer and photographer.
