About the tour: Join expert guides knowledgeable in both the history and architecture of the building as well as court operations on a tour of the Byron R. White Court House. Originally designed to serve as federal agency offices, a post office, and a court house, the building’s purpose has changed many times over the years as Denver has grown. Today, the building is the seat of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, one of 13 federal courts hearing appeals from courts throughout a six state inter-mountain region.

About the building: The Byron White U.S. Courthouse introduced and popularized the Neoclassical style in Denver on a grand scale. This building has been described as “a poem in marble”. Using native stone marble from Marble, Colorado, the exterior of the post office courthouse is clad entirely in marble.

Security Considerations: Be prepared to pass through security screening at your point of entry. All items must be screened in x-ray machines and all visitors will be asked to pass through metal detectors. All persons over the age of 16 should have a photo ID. Smoking is prohibited inside the building. Consumption of food and beverages is not permitted. Taking photographs inside the courthouse, including audio and video recording, is prohibited. Photography is permitted only outside the courthouse. Any weapon, substance, material or other item that may pose a danger to Court property or the safety of the Judges, Court employees, guests or the general public is prohibited. It is unlawful for armed state or local law enforcement officers to possess a firearm in a Federal facility unless there is an official law enforcement purpose for the visit.

Accessibility: A wheelchair ramp for the Byron White U.S. Courthouse can be accessed by beginning at the northeast corner of the building near 19th Street and Stout Street, and traveling along the upper sidewalk (closest to the building) toward the rear of the building. A brass sign at the end of the upper walkway will indicate the entrance to the ramp. Use the call box at the bottom of the ramp to call a court security officer who will ask for valid government issued identification and conduct a security check. Elevators are available inside the entrance and provide ready access to all public spaces. For more information, please visit the Bryron White U.S. Courthouse website.

Please note that DAF tours take place rain, snow or shine. If your tour includes an outdoor portion, please dress for the weather. DAF staff will contact all attendees directly should a tour be cancelled for any reason.
