Doors Open Denver Virtual Tour: National Center for Atmospheric Research Mesa Laboratory
About the tour: Walk NCAR’s Mesa Laboratory campus, located in Boulder, CO, with an architect, a scientist and a film crew. This will be an informal walk and discussion about everything from what NCAR is and does to who I.M. Pei is and the masterpiece that put him on the map.
About the site: The I.M. Pei-designed Mesa Laboratory is the headquarters of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. The lab’s studies include meteorology, climate science, atmospheric chemistry, solar-terrestrial interactions and environmental and societal impacts.
About the tour guides: Josh Robinson is a Lead Project Designer at KEPHART Architects, President of Docomomo Colorado and known for his talks and activities relating to Modernist architecture across the city and state. Josh also is an active member of the Ghost Town Club of Colorado, an organization dedicated to the preservation of Colorado’s historic ghost towns.
Tim Barnes, Science Education Specialist at NCAR, gives interpretive presentations, teaches educational programs for K-12 students visiting NCAR, presents activities at outreach events and does wizard demos during Super Science Saturday. He also helps run the NCAR Undergraduate Leadership Workshop.
