About the tour: The University Club of Denver tour offers a glimpse into one of the city’s most storied private institutions. Visitors will explore the historic 1895 building, including the College Room—designed in 1923 by renowned architect Temple Buell as his first professional commission. Highlights include richly detailed woodwork, classical interiors, and views of the Colorado State Capitol. The tour showcases the Club’s enduring role in Denver’s civic and cultural life.

About the Building: Located at 1673 Sherman Street, the University Club of Denver is a distinguished example of early 20th-century institutional architecture. Originally constructed in 1895 and expanded in 1923 and 1957, the building reflects a blend of classical detailing and collegiate character. Notable architectural features include its brick and limestone façade, arched windows, and refined interior spaces such as the College Room, designed by Temple Buell as his first professional commission. Situated just steps from the Colorado State Capitol, the building serves as a private social and intellectual club, retaining its historic charm while accommodating modern amenities.

About the Tour Guide: Kaleigh Nitz, Executive Coordinator at Tryba Architects. Kayleigh supports operations, strategic initiatives, and internal communications for the design team. She holds a Master’s in Historic Preservation from the University of Colorado Denver and brings particular expertise in Gilded Age residential architecture. Kaleigh serves on the board of the University Club of Denver and chairs its Preservation Committee, where she is dedicated to honoring the building’s original beauty while interpreting its living history. Her professional background bridges architectural practice and preservation, with a focus on design excellence and cultural stewardship.

Accessibility:  There is limited ADA access to the building and guests will be required to traverse many stairs throughout the tour.

Refund policy: The Denver Architecture Foundation is a nonprofit educational organization. Ticket sales support the Foundation in continuing to provide quality events to the public. We are unable to provide refunds or credits for any reason less than 14 days prior to the event.

Please note that DAF tours take place rain, snow or shine. If your tour includes an outdoor portion, please dress for the weather. DAF staff will contact all attendees directly should a tour be cancelled for any reason.
