About the tour: Join the Denver Architecture Foundation for a unique tour showcasing the deconstruction of a home in Cherry Hills Village. Perks Deconstruction, a Colorado-based company specializing in sustainable demolition, will share the process of how deconstruction works in practice and how it differs from conventional demolition methods. Attendees will also learn how waste diversion tracking and material recovery can support projects pursuing sustainability goals and local recycling requirements.
Please note that this tour will take place on an active deconstruction site. While PPE is not required, all attendees must wear close-toed shoes.
About Perks Deconstruction: Perks Deconstruction provides comprehensive deconstruction and demolition services that help homeowners and contractors salvage, donate, and recycle as many building materials as possible. By carefully dismantling structures rather than relying on traditional demolition methods, the company works to divert valuable materials from landfills and extend the life of building components through reuse. Perks Deconstruction envisions a future where deconstruction is the default alternative to demolition, and where new construction and renovations routinely incorporate reclaimed and recycled materials.
The organization’s mission is to serve as a leader in sustainable construction practices in Colorado by offering deconstruction services and resources that encourage the donation and reuse of building materials. Through this work, Perks fosters partnerships among contractors, homeowners, and community organizations to support circular economies and reduce construction waste. As part of a broader commitment to building a Zero Waste community, deconstruction helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create green jobs, and minimize environmental impacts, supporting a more sustainable and livable future for Colorado’s built environment.
About tour guide: Anna Perks is the founder and owner of Perks Deconstruction, a Denver-based company redefining demolition by maximizing the salvage and reuse of building materials. Since launching the company in 2019, Perks Deconstruction has diverted more than 10 million pounds of material from the landfill while partnering with local nonprofits to give reclaimed materials a second life.
Anna is widely recognized as a subject matter expert in building material diversion, waste management, and the circular economy within the construction industry. She actively contributes to advancing the field through her involvement with organizations such as the Colorado Green Building Guild and Recycle Colorado’s Construction & Deconstruction Council. Her work focuses on expanding building material reuse through hands-on deconstruction, strategic partnerships, and industry education.
Prior to founding Perks Deconstruction, Anna built her career in environmental leadership. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay developing municipal waste programs, worked on zero waste initiatives with Eco-Cycle, and advised more than 200 businesses on sustainability through Boulder County’s Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE) program. She later led business development for a manufacturing company launching reusable bags made from ocean plastic.
Through her work as both an entrepreneur and industry advocate, Anna continues to help shape more sustainable approaches to managing construction and demolition materials.
Accessibility: Due to the nature of an active construction site, the group is likely to be traversing uneven surfaces or using stairs that may not be suitable for wheelchairs or other mobility devices. There will be limited opportunity for seated rest throughout this tour.
