Recap: CU Denver Wellness Center Hard Hat Tour
On Monday, April 30, 2018, we took a hard hat tour of CU Denver’s Wellness Center from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. It was guided by Stephan Hall and Kevin Ilaoa with AndersonMasonDale Architects.
About the site: In April 2015, and in an effort led by CU Denver’s Student Government Association, students voted to pass a measure increasing student fees to fund a new wellness center, with unprecedented turnout; the CU Board of Regents added their approval. The new Student Wellness Center will include fitness facilities such as a lap pool, climbing wall, gymnasium and a “commuter” lounge for CU Denver students. The Center will encompass a variety of wellness dimensions including Spiritual, Social, Emotional, Intellectual, Physical, Financial, Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion and Creative.
The building is organized around a central, iconic interior space and circulation spine aligned with the newly reintroduced Walnut Street, a gesture linking architecture to the campus ‘grain.’ In concert with the CU Denver Student Commons Building, a new campus courtyard and plaza space form a new outside room for the CU Denver community. As the initial buildings of CU Denver’s new neighborhood on the Auraria Higher Education Center, a new student-life precinct emerges. – Rendering and description courtesy of AndersonMasonDale Architects
