AEROSPACE AND ENGINEERING SCIENCES BUILDING: STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY FOR AVIATION AND AEROSPACE SCIENCE PROGRAM
What do you think are some design elements that an aerospace science program would require in a facility?
Metropolitan State University of Denver’s 142,000-square-foot Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building is a state-of-the art facility, opened in 2017. The building houses the university’s programs in Aerospace Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Industrial Design and Physics. Students benefit from a unique public-private partnership between MSU Denver and the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute, aiming to deliver the most skilled, workforce-ready professionals to meet the aerospace and advanced manufacturing needs of Colorado (Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building Fact Sheet). It is located on the Auraria Campus, at the corner of 7th and Auraria Parkway. Auraria is the oldest continuously occupied neighborhood in Denver, with the buildings now occupied with campus offices (Fink, 1969).
Aviation and Aerospace Science Department
Colorado is currently the second-highest aviation and aerospace employer in the nation. As the industry has grown, MSU Denver’s Aviation and Aerospace Science Department has evolved into one of the largest, most sophisticated programs in the country. As MSU Denver continues its push to become the top program of its kind in the U.S., they remain the most affordable.
The AES Building provides coordinated disciplines offering advanced technology opportunities and experiential laboratories. Thanks to partnerships with Lockheed Martin, Hartwig, Inc. and United Airlines, MSU Denver students have access to the same technology and software used at NASA (Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building).
