Hard Hat Tour: SugarSquare – March 26

March 26, 2018

On Monday, March 26, 2018, we are touring SugarSquare. The hard hat tour is from 4:30 to 6:00 PM and will be guided by Jesse Bank, on the Development Team with Urban Villages, and Tom Gallagher, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Principal with Semple Brown Design.

About the site: SugarSquare is the final component of the three-building ‘Sugar Block’ project begun by Urban Villages in 2003. Conceived as an addition to the Historic Sugar Building at 1530 16th Street, SugarSquare fills in a longstanding gap in Denver’s urban fabric with a distinctly modern building that respects the context and rhythm of the historic Wazee street scape. At four stories above grade, SugarSquare provides a transition between the six-story Historic Sugar Building and the adjacent two-story buildings along Wazee Street. SugarSquare will be clad in blackened steel panels with a highly transparent glass and steel storefront that celebrates and frames the historic brick walls of the Sugar Building. There will be no brick on SugarSquare whatsoever, which is a first for LoDo.

SugarSquare will function as a private entrance for a tenant who has leased several floors in the Historic Sugar Building. Spaces in the historic building will flow freely into SugarSquare, significantly increasing the floorplate size of Historic Sugar. There will be no parking provided on site. SugarSquare is projected to be occupied in mid 2018. – Description courtesy of Urban Villages + rendering courtesy of Semple Brown Design

Please bring your own PPE (hard hat, safety vest, and safety glasses). If you don’t have your own PPE, you may purchase a DAF set. A limited number of loaner PPE sets will be available at the site. Please note, attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and must adhere to the following safety protocol:

  • Closed-toe sturdy shoes – Tennis shoes, high heels, sandals, flip flops, and fashion boots are not acceptable footwear for the construction site. Boots do not have to be steel toe; they can be hiking boots as long as they are durable and at least ankle high.
  • Full-length pants or jeans (no shorts, capri pants, skirts, or dresses) – Pants do not have to be jeans but they must be long enough to touch the top of your shoes.
  • Shirts with minimum four-inch sleeves.

The cost of the tour is as follows:
DAF Member: $30
Non-member: $35
DAF Hard Hat Set: $40
