Foothills Golf Course Clubhouse Walking Tour

August 20, 2024

About the tour: With 36 holes, a driving range, and expansive mountain views, Foothills Golf Course is the Denver metro area’s most popular public golf course. The newly completed clubhouse replaces the original 1974 structure, solving for functional challenges while celebrating the setting and sport.

About the building: The design approach elevates the expected quality of a public clubhouse facility through the use of several sustainable features, including a mass timber approach, a highly insulated metal rainscreen, glazing that provides ample daylight throughout the space and strategically placed shading devices along the western exposure of the building. Aesthetically, the most noteworthy aspect of the new clubhouse is the heavy timber structure, which is left exposed to showcase eye-catching glulam columns, beams and roof decking throughout the building.

About the tour guide: Heather Vasquez Johnson, Principal at JNS, has a unique talent for bridging the technical and creative design components of architecture and interior design. She is considered one of JNS’ lead preservation experts, having served on the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission as Vice-Chair and currently serving onthe Lower Downtown Design Review Commission as Chair. Alongside her passion for historic preservation, Heather is a highly experienced architect for new build hospitality-focused projects, with a keen ability to actualize thoughtful design into beautiful and functional spaces.

Accessibility: The building and site is wheelchair accessible, and there are plenty of opportunities throughout for guests to take a seat.
