Union Hall Art Space

Union Hall art space is located on the ground floor of The Coloradan building, an 18-story, LEED Gold-certified luxury condominium built in 2019 to blend seamlessly with the historic architecture and rapid development of Denver’s Union Station and Lower Downtown (LoDo) neighborhoods. The rear of the building features an entrance that connects directly with Union Station’s pedestrian bridge, creating a grand, processional entryway leading directly to Union Hall’s gallery.

Union Hall was co-master developed by East West Partners and Ascentris to be the first exhibition space and arts nonprofit integrated into a private real estate development in Denver.

Founded the same year as The Coloradan, Union Hall is a nonprofit culture and exhibition space developed by local artists and community members to address gaps in the regional arts ecosystem by providing a flexible, artist-driven platform for curatorial risk and creative experimentation. Union Hall has continued to cultivate a community of emerging creatives, presenting experimental and socially engaged work through exhibitions, public programs, and educational pathways. The organization’s mission is to advance opportunities for diverse, emerging creatives; offer accessible and enriching cultural experiences for Denver residents and visitors; and serve as a community-centered space for critical inquiry, dialogue, and connection.

To design the gallery space itself, East West Partners hired a team of consultants. including the award-winning art advisory firm Nine dot Arts, Communitas Consultants and David Ehrlich, founder of FinWater Advisors and the executive director of the Denver Theater District. This team had expertise not only in art curation, but also in production and how to make uncommon things happen in common spaces. They worked closely with the design team at Semple Brown to make the space as flexible as possible, appropriate for hosting art exhibitions as well as anything from theatrical productions to film screenings and fashion shows.

Accessibility: All areas of Union Hall are ADA accessible. There is elevator access between floors for exploration of the building before and after the event. There are power assist doors on the ground floor of The Coloradan (entrypoint to Union Hall), and elevators from the underground parking garage to the 1st floor.

Doors Open Denver 2026 Activities: Union Hall will be offering two tours: 9/25 at 1:30pm and 9/26 at 10am. Tours will explore the question: How can exceptional design and creative problem-solving make uncommon things happen in common spaces? Tours will be lead by Haily Haily Tweedie was part of the original team of architects at Semple Brown who designed Union Hall. With nearly two decades of experience across hospitality, residential, and restaurant spaces, Haily Haily brought an artful and inventive approach to the project, particularly in solving the building’s quirky architectural and interior design challenges. She now leads her own architecture and interior design firm, Tweed Studio, based in Denver.

Union Hall’s space will be exhibiting a group art exhibition under the title “In the Shadows” guest curated by Italu Ramos Hernandez. The title In the Shadows draws from the phrase “living in the shadows,” a term used to describe immigrants living in the United States. It evokes a state of invisibility, of existing in silence. This exhibition seeks to reclaim those untold stories, bringing visibility to the emotional, social, and political realities that often remain hidden. In the Shadows ultimately confronts the narratives that have rendered immigrants unseen. It asks viewers to consider: What does it mean to live in a country without full recognition or safety? What are the emotional and psychological costs of invisibility? By centering voices that are too often ignored, the exhibition not only humanizes immigrant experiences but also invites audiences to question broader notions of belonging, legality, and visibility in the United States.
