The Alliance Center

The Alliance Center began in 1908 as a freight warehouse in LoDo, built to serve Denver’s rail and cargo trade. Decades later, the Tattered Cover Bookstore used the building to ship and warehouse its stock, anchoring it in the literary and civic life of the neighborhood before LoDo’s modern revival. When John Powers and Janna Six purchased the building in 2004 to found what’s now The Alliance Center, it became the first historic building in the world to earn two LEED certifications, and its 2014 renovation later made it the first in Colorado to reach LEED Platinum v4. Today, this historic warehouse serves as a hub for the region’s climate and justice leaders, a place where relationships form and ideas turn into action.

Doors Open Denver 2026 Activities: The Alliance Center opens its doors for visitors to experience the space where Denver’s climate and justice leaders gather, work, and turn ideas into action. Coworking will be free for the day, self-guided tour materials will let visitors explore at their own pace, and staff will be on hand to answer questions about membership and partnership. Convivio Cafe will be open and serving at the Alliance Center throughout the day.
