About the tour: Join DAF, Food Bank of the Rockies, BVH Architecture, and Commerce Construction to tour the brand new large-scale food distribution center for Food Bank of the Rockies. The center handles roughly 90 million pounds of food each year, designed with the capacity to grow even more. The tour will showcase the building’s warehouse distribution operations, cold storage, loading docks, and other spaces designed to support Food Bank of the Rockies’ mission of reducing hunger across Colorado and Wyoming.
Please note that all attendees will be required to wear close-toed shoes inside the warehouse.
About the building: Construction of the new facility began June 13, 2024, and was completed November 18, 2025. Designed to significantly increase Food Bank of the Rockies’ storage and distribution capacity, the building allows the organization to move more food to community partners and support distribution centers in Western Colorado and Wyoming.
The 38th Ave facility was uniquely designed for the complex logistics of food banking, incorporating large-scale cold storage, 32 docks (including 10 cold docks), and specialized spaces to support efficient distribution and future growth. Project architects were Chamberlin Architects, BVH Architects, and Commerce Construction.
About the tour guides: Todd Afflerbaugh, LEED AP, Project Manager / Associate Principal joined the BVH Denver studio in 2022. Todd grew up in Michigan either on a sports field or on the lake. He attended the University of Michigan, earning his BS in Architecture and a love for the Maize and Blue. He then traveled west to Seattle to attend the University of Washington for his Master of Architecture. After working in San Francisco and the arrival of his two boys, Todd relocated to Denver in 2013 to be closer to family.
Todd is a registered architect and has twenty years of experience working on a diverse array of project types and scales from tree houses to theaters and everything in between. He has always enjoyed how architecture is a confluence of art, technology, history, and local culture. His time spent in Detroit, Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver has influenced his work and formed his appreciation for complex renovation projects in historic buildings.
Outside the office, you can find Todd recharging by spending time with his wife and two young boys, coaching his sons’ soccer teams, drinking a local IPA with family or friends on his back deck, or on a long bike ride around Denver and the front range.
Steve Kullberg, Chief of Staff, joined Food Bank of the Rockies in January 2020. Steve served as Chief Operating Officer until September 2024, when he moved to Chief of Staff. In this role, he serves as key advisor and strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer, focusing on communications and driving organizational priorities. He also oversees IT, the Western Slope and Wyoming distribution centers, and special projects such as the Aurora building. Steve has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. He and his wife have two grown children.
Jason Randels, Vice President, District Manager, Colorado joined Commerce Construction in June 2025 as vice president and district manager for the Aurora, Colorado, office, where he oversees all construction and design-build operations within that market.

His diverse project experience includes light industrial tilt-up concrete (speculative and build-to-suit), tenant finish, medical, retail, restaurant and hospitality work.
