Reimagining Skyline Park | DOD 2026 Insider Tour
September 25, 2026
About the tour: Discover the past, present, and future of one of Denver’s most iconic public spaces. Join Andrew Iltis, Senior Vice President at the Downtown Denver Partnership, for a walking tour of Skyline Park as it undergoes a remarkable transformation designed by RIOS. Originally envisioned by renowned landscape architect Lawrence Halprin, Skyline Park has long served as the heart of downtown’s public realm. This tour explores the park’s evolving role as a vibrant civic gathering space while examining the design vision, community engagement, and urban planning strategies shaping its next chapter. Experience firsthand how thoughtful landscape architecture and placemaking are helping redefine downtown Denver for future generations.
About the park: The Skyline Park Improvements Project reimagines three blocks of the historic Downtown Denver park as an inclusive, year-round civic destination. Led by Denver Parks & Recreation (DPR) in partnership with Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP), the project restores Skyline Park as the energetic core of downtown. Designed by RIOS, the plan is guided by the concept of fabric and flow, weaving together landscape, architecture, and public life to reconnect the park’s three blocks and strengthen its role in Denver’s urban fabric.
About the tour guide: Andrew Iltis loves cities and the people who bring them to life. As a Senior Vice President leader at the Downtown Denver Partnership, he works on projects that make downtown Denver more vibrant, connected, and resilient—from mobility and urban design to adaptive reuse and public space activation. He served as Principal-in-Charge of Denver’s Downtown Area Plan, co-founded Viva Streets, Denver’s largest open streets event series, and leads the Urban Exploration Program, helping civic leaders learn from great cities around the world. Andrew is especially interested in how bold ideas, thoughtful design, and a little experimentation can create places where people want to be.
