Recap: Denver Union Station, Crown Jewel of the RTD Transit System
On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, we had an insightful look at Denver’s iconic Union Station. Joe Christie, our guide and Project Director for RTD’s EAGLE plan to expand transit across the Denver metro region, showed us how the development plans for the public realm spaces integrated seamlessly with the buildings around the transit facilities and historic building. Tour-goers saw and discussed the RTD Union Station Transit project, including the lightrail station, 22-bay underground regional bus terminal, the commuter rail terminal and the redevelopment of the historic structure into the Crawford Hotel. The tour also incorporated a discussion on the planning and coordination by RTD, the City, utility owners and adjacent developers to minimize conflicts and re-work during and after RTD construction as the rest of the buildings in the Central Platte Valley were constructed.
